    Meet Carley Elliott, Ph.D. candidate and Master of Public Health alum in the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Carley has "become increasingly passionate about the health and well-being of both humans and animals and the ways diseases like cancer impact us all." Carley cares for a feral cat colony, has a personal cat named Cheech, a 4-foot ball python named Noodle, and wishes she had the ability to talk and listen to each of them.

    In a study published in Science Translational Medicine, researchers led by Yassine Sassi of the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute found that elevated levels of microRNA-224 promoted abnormal cell growth in the lungs’ blood vessels, contributing to disease.
